When I started my business, I had no money, no skills, no support network. I was attending college full-time and parenting a 2-year-old little girl when my husband started losing hours at work. We didn’t have a safety net or a plan B.
I took the last $100 out of our tax return and spent it on web hosting so I could start a business. This was a huge risk for me since I was struggling to even pay a $10/mo. phone bill at the time.
No one in my family had ever started a business before, so it wasn’t something I knew how to do. The whole process felt scary, but I didn’t really have a choice. It was leap or fall. In a few weeks, my husband would be laid off and we’d have no way to pay rent, which was exactly what happened.
If I hadn’t created my business then, we would have been on the streets or in a shelter.
That’s how I know that businesses don’t always start with planning and strategy. Sometimes they start out of necessity. Sometimes they start with less than a shoestring budget. And those businesses can still move on to be some of the most successful.
Start where you’re at with what you’ve got. You can figure out the rest as you grow.
The sole act of STARTING a business is a brave one. So, believe in yourself and never be afraid to take the leap. 💖
Best,
Chantilly
