I’ve been writing these daily reflections and inspirations for almost a full month now. Doing them definitely takes a time commitment, but it’s also one of the most rewarding things I’ve done for myself in a while.
I find myself taking time to reflect every morning in a way that I haven’t for quite a long time. I deeply believe in self-care, but I don’t always make time to take care of myself. Ironic, I know.
I get busy with work, passion projects, family stuff and everything else. And I forget to nourish my mind and spirit the way I used to.
When I was younger, I used to sit in front of the lake for hours and just reflect on life. I miss doing that. I miss quiet reflection and internal dialog. I miss being alone with myself.
I promised myself that this year I’m going to find more places to escape to. I’m also going to write more and reflect more…on life and business.
I wrote a post on my blog a few years back about taking off the whole month of December from everything and just reflecting and re-energizing. Taking that month off is one of the best things I have ever done for myself or my business.
After a few big life challenges, I stopped taking that downtime for myself. I put my head down and just worked through. I had to catch up. I had to keep my head above water. But living that way has felt miserable.
And that’s precisely why I’m taking time to reflect daily with these messages to ya’ll. It’s also why I’m planning even more ways to escape my work week.
I mentioned in an earlier post that downtime is non-negotiable and I really meant it. You’ll lose yourself, your health and everything that makes you the amazing person you are if you overwork yourself.
Don’t push yourself. Don’t buy into the “hustle.” Everything you can do in 8 hours, you can do in 2 hours if you’re rested and really productive. So please take time for yourself first. 💖
Best,
Chantilly
