Please note: Project length and phases may vary based on project size and requirements. A more detailed timeline and task outline will be provided to you once your project is confirmed. The overview below shows a typical design process for a business level website.
I typically spend 8-12 weeks on each project, helping you to strategize, plan and design everything from your logo to your email marketing.
Here’s a closer look…
Phase 1: Client Intake and Discovery (1-2 weeks)
Over the period of a week or two, I’ll gather information from you, chat with you via email and phone. We’ll develop a sense of your preferences, your design inspirations, and your communication style. Taking this time to get to know you and your business will help me to further personalize the design experience for you and give you a better result on your investment.
Phase 2: Research and Planning (1-2 weeks)
Together, we’ll go over your business strategy, research your competitiors, decide on the direction and messaging for your branding, plan a traffic strategy and brainstorm ideas for the layout and design of your website. Allowing us to customize every step of the process.
Phase 3: Brand Development (2-3 weeks)
Based on your direction and our conversations together, I’ll start to draft and refine 3 distinct logo concepts. I’ll present them to you and you’ll have a chance to respond with notes for possible revisions and your overall feel for each logo. We’ll go step by step, first previewing logos in greyscale, then in color, and finally, we’ll decide on the final look and make the last round of revisions to the logo of your choice. Brand development also includes messaging, copy editing and overall content strategy to help you make the biggest impact with your readers or potential clients.
Phase 4: Website Design & Development (2-3 weeks)
I’ll start our drafting a wireframe for the website layout based on the needs we discuss for the look and functionality of your website. You’ll have the opportunity to choose which layout and details best fit your project needs. Then I’ll get to work on building the website, either my server or on your domain, depending on whether the project is a redesign or new design. One the design is complete, you’ll be invited to review the site and request revisions before we begin planning the website launch.
Phase 5: Marketing Strategy (1 week)
As part of the design process, I offer marketing strategy. I’ll help you to setup and design a newsletter for your business or blog, plan your launch marketing strategy, including designing promotional graphics, and design any other graphics you need for the site (ad banners, promos, etc.) and social media covers that will keep your branding consistent across all platforms.
Phase 6: Website Launch (1 week)
Tada! We’re finally in the launch phase. At this point, I’ll be going through the site to test the speed, mobile responsiveness and functionality of the design. We’ll make sure that any last minute issues are ironed out, but at this point, there won’t be any design or structural changes, just minor tweaks. If this project is a redesign, I’ll be moving your site over to your domain in preparation for launch. Once everything is ready to go and you give the word, we’ll open up your new site and you can begin promoting it.
