I recently saw a video of Will Smith on Sway’s Universe talking about what it takes to pursue your dreams (click here to watch the video).
“Following your dreams is a lonely, solitary, scary, dangerous pursuit. You can’t wait for somebody to think you can do it.”
“You have to be willing to risk everything.”
“You gotta be fearless, you gotta be relentless.”
“If you don’t believe, nobody else is going to believe.”
Being a creative/digital entrepreneur, these words really resonated with me.
There are plenty of times when I knew exactly where I wanted to go with my business, but for a long time, I didn’t have anybody in my corner who “got it.” Nobody in my circle had been where I was going.
Over the years, I’ve had people ask me why I don’t just “quit” and “get a real job.” Sure, I’ve struggled to make ends meet. I’ve doubted myself. I’ve even wondered the same thing at times.
But If this life…this creative, entrepreneurial, digital life…is for you, then you need to fight for it.
You have to believe in yourself whether or not you have people’s support. You have to be determined enough to stick with it even if you have to stay the course alone. And you have to be confident enough to shut down people’s advice if it doesn’t work for you. 💖
